Mazda released pricing on the 2012 Mazda3, which is now available with the automaker’s Skyactiv engine. The new power plant will be available in Mazda3 i Touring models, which start at $18,450. “Mazda3 i Touring models swap the MZR engine for the all-new SKYACTIV-G 2.0-liter gasoline engine, and is EPA-rated to achieve 40 mpg on the highway,” says Mazda in a press release. 
Mazda says that the new engine delivers 21 percent better fuel economy, but that increase doesn’t come at the expensive of power. Autoblog writes, “With an Environmental Protection Agency-estimated 40 mpg and 155 horsepower, the engine is both more efficient and more powerful than its predecessor.”
There’s also good news for shoppers interested in the base model, as Mazda has lowered the price on the Mazda3 i SV to $15,200, not including a $795 destination fee. However, Edmunds reports that the 2012 Mazda3 i Sport sees a $140 price increase to $17,640 (including a $795 destination fee). Both the base i SV and i Sport models carry the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine from the 2011 model.
